What is prophecy from a Christian point of view?
Simply put, prophecy is about delivering a message from God.
Often that message will involve a vision of the future. Note that this is not a prediction of the future. It is an indication of what might be not what will be. The message given by God is often one of change - see the story of Jonah (chapter 3) for an example.
A prophet then, is someone who listens out for God's messages and makes sure that they are heard by the right audience.
So the spiritual gift of prophecy is very likely to be closely involved with the related gifts of knowledge and wisdom as well as that of teaching.

Updates
I've finally added some content to my main web site - some thoughts from an old school friend of mine from way back. He sent me some stuff over a year ago and I've only just got round to adding it.
His thoughts also triggered a link in my mind to what I've been thinking about Prophecy.

Why?
I've been interested in wisdom for a long time and I find it interesting how it relates to my career in Information Technology.
My belief is that wisdom means very little unless it is backed by knowledge and that knowledge comes from information.
I did a very short study on this from a Christian perspective, you can find it on my personal web site under the Christian\Wisdom section.
